Announcing BALL x PIT

I’m excited to announce BALL x PIT, a ball bouncing, base building roguelite. I’m really bad at trying to explain what it is so here’s the announcement video.

There’s currently a free demo available to play on Steam.

It’s been almost exactly a decade since my first commercial release and this one feels like the culmination of everything I’ve done up to this point. I’m really proud of it, I think it will be one of the highlights of my career.

This was my first time really leading a team, I’m lucky to have found some brilliant collaborators. Here’s a list of the core team:

  • Sergio ‘Bini’ H. Alcelay (3D Artist) – Created all of the 3d models for the base building portion of the game (buildings, environment, elevator)
  • Fernando Labarta Martin (Technical Artist) – Created all of the shaders and visual effects, including in-game balls, particles, etc.
  • Mohammed Bakir Khawam (Low Poly Pixel Artist) – Crafted all of the pixel art textures, most of the enemies, the bosses, and level environments
  • Lisa Fasol (Concept Artist) – Created concepts for the buildings, level environments, enemies, and character HUD elements. Previously also created some of the pixel art for the prototype which I pitched to publishers.
  • Luka Parascandalo (Pixel Artist) – Created all of the icons and portraits in the game, along with most of the UI and some of the enemies.
  • Amos Roddy (Composer) – Composed on an amazing soundtrack for the game, some of which you can hear in the announcement video, plus a little sound design.

Devolver Digital is publishing it, who have been a dream to work with. The first indie game I ever purchased on Steam was Hotline Miami, exactly 12 years ago to the day (June 6th 2013), long before I ever thought I could do this for a living, so this feels like a real full circle moment. They’ve been hugely supportive of the game and have thrown a lot of their weight behind it, as evidenced by that unhinged announcement video they put together for Summer Game Fest (which I love).

I’m hoping to write a few more posts about the development process of BALL x PIT as we get closer to launch, if I can find the time, but for now please enjoy the demo!

  1. Hi Kenny, I just played your Ball x Pitt demo and I’m hooked! I spent about 3hrs in the demo and will be returning to sink some more time into it. Do you have any plans for multiplayer coop or even a tetris style vs mode? I also stream and make short form video game content and would love to help promote the game if you are able to spare a copy, I plan on buying the game regardless ofcourse.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, have an awesome day! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜Ž

  2. Hey I just saw a video of your demo. I canโ€™t wait to play it myself! I have one suggestion that would be amazing. Head to head multiplayer! Like Tetris multiplayer. My friends are also excited to play it and it would be excellent to play with them. If competition isnโ€™t your thing then co-op would be interesting as well. Thanks for your time, and keep up the good work!

  3. Played the demo for ball x pit last night for 4 and a half hours!
Just wanted to find you and tell you how much I loved playing it. A LOT!!

    THANKS FOR MAKING IT

    Cheers,
    James
